Mother's Day 2011

Yesterday was Mother's Day. It was a great day for me. I got up and had a nice breakfast with Gil, my husband. Lorena, my granddaughter, and I went to Sacrament meeting at church. Her friend, Alana, was one of the speakers there. Plus Duncan's mom spoke, too. All the talks were wonderful and well done.

After church Lorena's mom and dad, Elisa and Rudy, along with Gil picked us up to go to have lunch together. We went to Fat's Restaurant in Roseville for their special Mother's Day buffet. Yummy. I was in love with what they had to eat. And eat I did. They had a most delicious fried wonton that was filled with cream cheese and crab. Oh my gosh. It was so good that I ate three of them. Mmmmmm. They also had several traditional Chinese dishes and prime rib, roast turkey, salads, including Korean cucumber and a fruit salad. Sticky buns, garlic green beans, shrimp fixed many different ways. Oh, so good. We all enjoyed it.

We came back to our house and talked and watched golf. Elisa's washer was broken, so she brought over her laundry and worked on that. We played several games of the card game BS. We laughed and had a good time. It took Gil and I to figure out the finer aspects of the game. I was caught several times by what people said. I finally learned not to really listen to what people said so much as what they did. It was fun. I won one game, but it was only just by the luck of the draw.

They gave me a quilt Elisa made that has all my grandchildren's hand prints on it. So cute. She has yet to quilt it. When she does, I will post a picture here. Lorena gave me a darling card and waited to see if I was going to cry. I did, but I do not think she saw me do it.

After they left, my two sons called. Dan called first. We talked a long time. Then Don and his wife, Jaimee, called. And again a long conversation was held. I hate that they all live in southern California. I wish we all lived closer. Oh well, you have to go where the jobs are.

This morning Gil gave me a wonderful card. Later Elisa brought over a gift from Dan. He had her purchase a gift card to a local quilt store. What could be better? I love to quilt/sew.

I was not able to get hold of my mom, Ruth, yesterday. So I called her this morning. We had a long talk. I actually like calling her after everyone else has. That way I get to hear about all my siblings and their kids. I had sent her a book and card, but she had not received it yet. I mailed it in time, but I guess the USPS did not help me out by getting it to her on time. I tried, Mom.

It was a great Mother's Day for me.
